What is Gold Seal Accreditation?

Gold Seal Accreditation is Florida's Highest Distinction for Early Childhood Education. Here's What That Means.

Most licensed childcare centers in Florida meet the state's minimum requirements to operate. That's the baseline- and for many facilities, that's where it ends.

Gold Seal Accreditation is something entirely different.

Awarded by the State of Florida and recognized by the Department of Children and Families, Gold Seal Accreditation identifies the early childhood programs that go far beyond the minimum. It's a voluntary, rigorous certification process that evaluates every aspect of a childcare facility — from the quality of the learning environment and the qualifications of the teaching staff, to the curriculum, the safety protocols, and the overall experience of every child in the program.

To earn Gold Seal status, a facility must first achieve accreditation from one of a select group of nationally recognized early childhood education organizations. Open Doors Preschools holds accreditation through the National Accreditation Commission for Early Care and Education Programs - one of the most respected credentialing bodies in the country.

In plain terms: Gold Seal isn't something you apply for and receive. It's something you earn- through demonstrated, verified excellence in every area that matters for your child.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • All childcare centers in Florida are required to be licensed by the state. Licensing ensures that a facility meets Florida's minimum requirements for safety, staffing ratios, and basic operating standards. Gold Seal Accreditation goes significantly further — it's a voluntary credential that requires a program to meet nationally recognized standards for curriculum quality, teacher qualifications, learning environment, and overall program excellence. Think of licensing as the floor. Gold Seal is the ceiling.

  • Not at Open Doors. Our accreditation reflects our commitment to quality — it's part of who we are, not an add-on service. All families enrolled at Open Doors receive the benefit of Gold Seal Accredited care as a standard part of our program.

  • Gold Seal Accreditation is not permanent — it must be actively maintained and renewed. Open Doors Preschools holds current Gold Seal Accreditation at all five Southwest Florida locations. You're welcome to ask our team for documentation during your tour, and accreditation status can also be verified through the Florida Department of Children and Families.

  • All five. Cape Coral (both locations), Fort Myers / Daniels Corridor, Estero, and Lehigh Acres. Every Open Doors family, regardless of which location they attend, receives the same Gold Seal Accredited standard of care.
